About David
With over 20 years of experience teaching piano to adults, I offer relaxed, personalised lessons designed around each student's interests, abilities and goals.
I've been playing piano for over 40 years and, alongside teaching, continue to work as a performer, composer and recording artist. I have a lifelong interest in exploring and creating music.
I enjoy bringing all this experience into my lessons, helping students develop their own musical ideas and interests, from learning and interpreting music to developing skills in improvisation and composition.

Learning the piano as an adult can be very different from learning as a child. You may have less time to practise, greater demands on your attention, or concerns about posture, tension, fatigue or simply whether you are “too old” to learn.
Having taught adults for over 20 years, I understand these challenges and adapt my teaching accordingly.
Play comfortably
Good technique should make playing easier, not more tiring. I'll help you develop good posture, movement and hand technique while avoiding unnecessary tension.
You don't have to become someone else's idea of a pianist. The aim is to help you become the pianist you want to be.

It's completely normal to feel nervous about starting or restarting the piano as an adult. My lessons are relaxed and supportive, with the aim of helping you become a confident and independent pianist.

Lesson rates
One-hour piano lesson: £40
I offer flexible pricing where possible, so that people on a lower income can still have access to piano lessons. If £40 per lesson would be difficult for you, please get in touch to discuss a reduced rate.

If you are working towards a piano examination, I can provide structured and supportive preparation tailored to your chosen examination board and your individual needs. My students have so far chosen ABRSM, with the majority achieving distinction.
Examinations are entirely optional, and lessons can just as easily be centred around the music you enjoy, developing your technique, exploring different styles, improvisation or composition, or simply becoming a more confident pianist.
